Benefits of MDA Test:

The Checksum MDA (Manufacturing Defects Analyzer) System allows a standard PC to efficiently test electronic assemblies to find manufacturing defects such as opens, shorts, and incorrect or misoriented components. The System makes high-speed measurements for opens and shorts, resistances, capacitances, inductances, voltages and semiconductor junctions. For each test it makes a measurement of a pair of test points in the unit-under-test (UUT) via test probes and compares the outcome against individual, user-specified upper and lower test limits.

The System software provides the ability to program ('learn') the test sequence for a UUT. The System can self-learn some UUT attributes, such as opens and connections, diode mapping for IC orientation and presence. Once a UUT is tested you may generate various types of test reports.

To test a UUT (PCB or Flex) the Checksum MDA system is interfaced to the Polydee 'Standard Fixture' via 4, 50Way ribbon cables providing 200-test points (test points are added in 200-test point increments with additional MPX cards). To use the Standard Fixture for a different product the only changes necessary are the product probe blocks and mounting plates. The product probe fixture then probes the UUT and with the aid of an X-Y adjustable table, probe alignments of fine pitch devices can easily be performed.

The TR-8 Visual MDA System is a Windows based software system. The optional Model TR-8-SMT adds HP TestJet technology to the TR-8 MDA test System. This technology can be used to test for open connections to ICs and connectors and to test for the polarity of capacitors. The TR-8-SMT open-detection capability is particularly applicable to surface-mount-technology (SMT) since opens are a significant contributor to the normal fault spectrum when using SMT.
